Pecans or Nuez in Spanish are protected trees in Saltillo-Mexico. The trees in our area, San Alberto, are older than 50 years old. It is illegal to cut down these trees. Many houses have at least one tree in the middle of the house. They build the specific area with walls or glass window surrounding the tree in the middle. We have one in the living room, one in the garage (imagine that). Somebody asked me if I had hit anything with my car, I said YES, the pecan tree in my garage is the only thing I have touched with the rear bumper.
Now the harvest time is coming, we find lots and lots of pecans falling every minute of the day. Sarah has fun picking 'em up from the side yard (where we had 4 trees), on the side walk in front of our property where we have 3 trees, in the garage 1 tree, at the back yard, 1 tree, and the living room 1 tree. So we have 10 trees. We love picking up but really hate to peel them off. Normally the Mexican will come with truck, from house to house, offering to take them for us. The deal is: half of the crops for them and half for us. They do it real good, with a long stick, they will climb up high, make me scare just to watch them go up on the tip of the thin branches of the trees. What a dangerous way to make a living.
And guess what, we got 6 bags on the first day (other 3 bags goes to the workers), and another 3 on the next day, another 4 on the following day. We told the workers to take all of the crops from the second day onward as we have 3 bags and not quite sure what to do with those.
