Our Home Far Away From Home

Sometimes I just don't know how to deal with a four year old.

FIRST VISIT TO DENTIST
I couldn't put Sarah on dentist chair since she was 2. As soon as she saw a dentist, she would scream and cry. But I have to keep trying don't I?

We read together about children who's going to dentist, as well as promised her a present. Until one day I took her (again). The dentist is a young woman and claims herself to be a kid's dentist.

We went there and she told me : "here's what I'll do. You wait at the waiting room, let me talk and work with Sarah. If she doesn't behave or getting scared, I will call you."

(fine with me)

I heard all kinds of stuff was going on inside as I waited. About 7 minutes later She was finished and got herself a pink balloon. Thank God the dentist said that her teeth were clean and there's no problem.

In the car I gave her the promised present. Sarah was happy and said: "thank you mommy....you're so sweet. But I need more than this mommy..."
 rrrrrrr

CANNOT CHANGE HER MIND
Even I always explain that daddy's car is no faster than mommy's, it's all about the driver not the car, she still thinks that it's the car. One afternoon I drove David's car. It felt too big for me so I drove it slow. Sarah was very surprised and kept on asking: "THIS CAR CAN GO SLOW?"
(cape deeh)

NO KIDDING CHILDREN NEED GOOD EXAMPLES
Like most of Indonesian kids, I grew up with full time maids. I never had to pick up after myself, it's not in my system. Now that I have a sewing studio, no doubt it's always a mess. Lately Sarah is so In to Barbie and Barbie wedding games. She plays in her room with her friend. I noticed that her friend clean up after they finished playing, and asked Sarah where to put things. While Sarah didn't even bother to help.

I find it hard talking to her about picking up her toys after the play. The nanny always have to clean up for her. So one day I told her: Sarah, if your room is a mess now, it will always be a mess until you are a big girl. And if one day there's a boy who wants to marry you, he will cancel once he sees how messy your room is.

She said: "OK mommy", and started to pick up two or three toys before she stopped and said: "But daddy married you mommy...."
